Artes Terræ is Latin for “earth arts” and includes the Latin diphthong ae – so this distinguishing factor was an obvious target for a memorable logo symbol design.
For this landscape architecture company, the choice of a Latin name indicated their familiarity with various species of plants. The company is also very involved in the restoration of heritage sites, so I merged the “æ” with ancient Saint John’s Arms symbol of the “Looped Square” which is now commonly used in Northern Europe to signify heritage sites.
The symbol also makes references to the multi-layered aspect of architectural landscape planning and definition of paths and planting areas. Colours blends reference how they take into account the passing cycle of seasons and the combination of different natural landscape materials.
